Henk started restoring his VW Kombi in 2009. He's kept a very detailed photo archive and (dis)assembly descriptions to make sure he would be able to put everything back together. By 2012, Henk started posting his restoration experiences on the web for all of us to enjoy! We met through Instagram and quickly realised we lived quite close to each other. Jilly has a 1977 VW Bay Window which she rebuilt with her dad. She now documents her travels and adventure in her "fried out kombi" on Instagram. Check out Jeff's blog to read about his experiences with his vw buses, whilst he's learning as he goes... Hazel's 1965 younger sister from another sister only a short drive up the coast, whom are raising their kids the V-dub way as well! Wouter Duindam started collecting photos and license plate numbers of Dutch Volkswagen Kombi vans as a hobby which has resulted in Netherlands' largest archive containing the details of more than 750 active Kombis. Lex ownes a 1965 Westfalia Split Screen since December 2007. It also required a full restoration; check out his Blog to follow his progress.
We hope you enjoy the new look of the third generation Hazel Armstrong website that now has full handheld device compatibility! Whilst we were at it, we reviewed and updated all articles to include our experiences over the years with the good, the bad and the ugly since completion of the restoration in 2005. On top of that, We've added many previously unpublished photographs to the restoration articles to further illustrate the works. Finally, the photo album has been replaced with an Instagram feed that is regularly updated for you to enjoy.

Personally, I am not a big fan of naming objects. Unfortunately, reality seems that there is no way around it. Hazel Armstrong is not my name, but the name of our Kombi. Having a Kombi with both a first and a last name seems a bit awkward, so let me explain: we found bucket loads of hazel nuts during the first clean out of the van, hence the name "Hazel". She must have provided shelter to a diversity of rodents that kept their winter supply of food in the loading bay.
The last name "Armstrong" has a slightly less self-evident explanation: inside the van we found a wrapping of cigarette rolling paper, the inside of the wrapping showed a picture of some fishes with their Latin name "Hyphessobrycon Armstrongi"
